The Power of After-School Programs and Tutoring
Setting our students on a path to success often requires providing extra support beyond the school day. High-quality after-school programs create opportunities for students to receive the additional academic and social supports they need to thrive.
High-Dosage Tutoring
Intensive small-group math tutoring for grades 6-9 across 43 districts. Maximum 4 students per tutor, minimum 3 sessions per week. State-funded program facing reduced funding next year—the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit could help fill this gap.
After-School Programs
State-funded grants for tutoring, mentoring, STEM, arts, athletics, and wellness activities across 30 municipalities (2025-27). Both programs rely on limited state budgets—additional funding sources are needed.
Eligible Expenses Under Federal Scholarship Tax Credit
- Academic tutoring & extended day/after-school programs
- Books, supplies, and computers
- Transportation & special needs services
- Test fees and dual enrollment fees
The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit
Can be a major source of funding to supplement these state-funded programs—especially as tutoring faces budget cuts. Individual taxpayers can claim a dollar-for-dollar tax credit of up to $1,700 for contributions to approved Scholarship Granting Organizations.
